Singapore, here we come

I had always seen all these tall claims in lucky draws about winning this prize or that prize but could never bring myself to believe that someone actually ever wins these things. It was just such a huge coincidence that I had gone for some last minute gift shopping with a colleague since we were going to our boss’s house for the first time for dinner. At the department store there was a lucky draw sponsored by Singapore Airlines for customer shopping above a particular limit and my friend just happened to coax me into filling out the draw sheet against my purchase which I did ever so reluctantly. Then I had just forgotten about it because of my previous reservations about such contests.
Just two days later I got a call, while in office, saying that I have won an all expenses paid trip to Singapore! It was the buzz in the entire office that day. My girlfriend was delirious – suddenly all the money she’d been saving for our holiday was freed up for botox haywards heath. So off we went to Singapore about two weeks later. The hotel which was provided was a three star somewhere on Orchard Road so we had made our own booking at the Pan Pacific near the Marina. Nice hotel with a lovely view of the Marina, the Esplanade and the Merlion but there was this constant noise happening all throughout the day and night since there was renovation work going on in the lobby.
I can see why the airline was pushing us to go, when they were, because no one would visit Singapore at that time, it was always raining since the monsoon season had set in. We saw the usual which was Sentosa Island, Night Safari, Orchard Road, Bird Park, etc– The funniest incident was when we had gone to see the Night Safari. There is a tram which takes you around the park with a guided tour in which a very well trained operator makes the ride very interesting with her enunciation and diction. She hyped up our tour to the section of the Indian Buffalo to make it seem as if we were seeing some exotic animal. Not too be bad for a free holiday!
